Is my computer technician mad?

He says my computer has a Blue Screen of Death!

If you have ever seen a completely blue screen with some white writing on it then you know what a BSOD looks like! If this has never happened to you, thank your lucky stars and keep reading, this information is still useful!

The cause of a BSOD can be varied and once you experience one you will, in most cases not be able to fix it by re-starting your computer. You may be lucky and be able to get it going again once or twice, but it will fail!

Many computer users have come across the Blue Screen of Death, or BSOD for short. Usually most people will panic. Hopefully they will just turn the computer off and leave it.

Most people will continue to re-start the computer several times and they can lose all of their data when the computer just crashes and wont start again.

There are things that you the user can do at this point, but  your PC is close to being in need of computer technician, more information is available further on in this article.

There are many causes for this type of problem including hardware problems such as the internal power supply, RAM failure, overheating and / or overclocking your computer, but one of the most common problems is virus related.

However, the key to fixing a BSOD is to actually take preventative action before you have a problem. Which means doing the boring things like backups, Windows Updates, installing a quality Antivirus solution (and updating it all the time)

The best way to make sure that your precious photos, artwork, thesis, or just simple letters and emails are as safe as possible is to maintain your computer by doing Windows updates,

installing antivirus software and updating it and the most boring of all:

do a backup (or two) regularly.

One thing that you can do as part of your maintenance program is to clean the Registry in your computer.

Your Registry is a Windows created "list of things" in your computer, which can become unstable for many reasons, it is not the scope of this article to discuss these reasons, but  an unstable Registry will slow your computer, and over time will make it very slow.

By using one of these "Registry Cleaner" type products you can cover most bases on the computer maintenance aspect of your computer, thereby assuring yourself that you have done as much as possible to protect your photos, emails, letters etc

One final comment, many people think that a Registry Cleaner will recover their computer from a Blue Screen of Death, in most cases they will find that this is not the case. Yes, it is true that a BSOD can be fixed by installing a Registry Cleaner, but if your computer wont start, how can you install a Registry Cleaner after the problem has caused a catastrophic failure?
