My Slow ComputerHi everyone, I've set up this website as a guide to the majority of people who are not computer experts and who are looking for ways to speed up their computer. You'll find inside numerous tips, tricks and advice designed to help you get more out of your computer and gain more satisfaction from knowing your computer fix worked. First of all, here is a brief rundown of how a computer is designed to work: Plug in the power, press the "ON" button and then a screen full of colour appears with lovely little pictures (icons) on it. It then waits, no instructions, nothing, just waits for you to grab the mouse and click on something. A computer is totally reactive in that sense, you must do something to make it do what you want. This is the thing with a computer, it can do pretty much anything BUT someone has to tell it what to do and how to do it.So we as users have to tell it that we want to send an email, write a letter, browse the internet, print a photo and we do it by using the icons on the screen (called a desktop) which when double clicked start the software to allow us to do that task. When we click on an icon we tell the computer to start that piece of software, then we have to do what it is we want, so if it is browsing the internet we need to either type in a web address in the address bar near the top or type in something for it to search for. An example, using Internet Explorer as the browser. First you must click on the icon like this: On this computer the default website address is: www.google.com.au, which is depicted below: ![]() Now in here we type in the address bar the address of the site to which we wish to go, you probably cant read the address typed, so I have expanded it for you to see what it looks like and where it goes. I have highlighted the address bar with the address typed in, as follows:
